Feeding Tips
Feeding picky eaters can be a challenge, trust us, we know! Natural and Raw Pet foods came to be in large part because of our dog Duncan. He had a hard knock life and spent a long time significantly under his recommended weight - until he fell in love with elk!
Of course, we recommend feeding raw (sometimes called the B.A.R.F diet for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food). Raw foods often have more easily digestible proteins and without the undigestible corn and wheat fillers many companies use, you're getting more useful food in each bite.Try these tips to help your picky dog
- Variety is the spice of life. Try our different raw dog food recipes and rotate through them.
- Try warming your dog's food in the microwave (don't get it too hot. you should be able to touch it w/o pain)
- Try cooking your dog's food
- Try sprinkling a motivational treat on the food (or mixing it in).
- Freeze dried liver can be crumbled into a powder that's hard to pick out
- Mozzarella or cottage cheese makes a tasty treat for dogs
- Try to stick to the water based cheeses instead of things like cheddar to avoid an upset stomach or diarrhea
- Be sparing so your dog doesn't become reliant on treats to eat.
- Make a game out of feeding. Have your dog do tricks and use bits of food as the reward
- Try, try again. Dog's don't need to eat daily. you might just need to experiment to find the right time of day for your pooch
